The area around Puerto Galera with it's many coves and beaches is a national marine park. It's in these waters that I first had a look of what lays beneath. My logbook mentions Monkey beach as Dive number 1, on 21th december 1993; after doing my backroll off the 'banka' (outrigger boat) I discovered giant clams, sea fern, blue starfish, basket sponges, brain coral, moorish idols, parrot fishes, organ pipe sponges and clownfishes, according to my written testimony.
